Hamlin & Van Buren--- Wilfred J. Daigle, 88, passed away peacefully Saturday, December 8, 2018, with his comforting family by his side. He was born February 16, 1930 in Grand Isle, a son of the late Solomon and Marie (Roy) Daigle.
Wilfred was a parishioner of St. Bruno-St. Remi Church, a life member of the Knights of Columbus, Fourth Degree Assembly, Van Buren, and a volunteer for the parish's Mercy Meal committee. He farmed many years on the family homestead, was the shop foreman at Blier's Cedar Mill, and worked for Fraser Paper.
He is survived by: his second wife of 16 years, Rena (Ruest) Ouellette Daigle of Van Buren; two daughters, Monica Beaulieu and her husband Ron of Old Orchard Beach, Susan Woodward and her husband Dan of Santee, CA; three sons, Steven Daigle and his wife Michelle of Lyman, Philip Daigle and his wife Joelle of Goshen, NY, and James Daigle and his wife Lily of N. Chelmsford, MA; two step-daughters, Lesa Dionne and her husband Pierre of Olean, NY, and Gina Gulasky and her husband William of Benton; two siblings, Richard Daigle and his wife Joan of Windham, Roger Daigle and his wife Anne of Milton, NH; 10 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and many step grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Wilfred was predeceased by his first wife of 49 years, Priscilla (Michaud) Daigle, a brother, Rev. Paul Thibodeau and two sisters and brother in laws, Lillian Daigle Rourke and husband Paul Rourke, and Laurette Thibodeau Langlois and Ted Langlois.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Friday, May 17, 2019, at St. Bruno-St. Remi Catholic Church, Van Buren. Relatives and friends may greet the family Friday morning 9 AM until the time of Mass at the church. Burial will be in Grand River Cemetery, Van Buren. In lieu of flowers, donations in Wilfred's name may be made to: St. Bruno-St. Remi Mercy Meal, 174 Main St., Van Buren, ME 04785, or Knights of Columbus-Parish Needs, 284 Main Street, Van Buren, ME 04785. Arrangements are a service of Lajoie Funeral Home, 118 High St., Van Buren.
