Obituary

Fort Kent—Yvette Gagne Brown, 93, passed away September 22, 2021 at Millinocket Regional Hospital in Millinocket, Maine. She was born in Keegan, Maine on August 21, 1928, the daughter of Cyril Gagne and Edith (Landry). At the age of 18, she was crowned the Maine Potato Blossom Queen which provided her a year of travel all over the United States promoting the potato industry in Maine, a trip to Hollywood, California, and a screen test at ABC studios in New York City. Upon return from her reign, she attended Becker College in Boston where she graduated with a degree in accounting. After a brief stint as a bank teller in Caribou, she married the love of her life, Earl L. Brown at St. Remi's Church in Keegan, Maine on June 15 th , 1950. She began a fruitful career as homemaker and mother to five children, 3 boys and two girls.

Yvette was very active in the community of Fort Kent serving as a literacy volunteer and a religious education teacher with St. Louis Catholic Church. She loved knitting and knitted many mittens, sweaters, and hats. She was most proud of the many prayer shawls she knitted for those in need. She was an avid golfer in her younger years, and a competitive Bridge player. She enjoyed alpine skiing, spending winter vacations skiing at Mont-Sainte-Anne in Beaupre' Quebec. In the summer, family trips to Ogunquit beach in Ogunquit, Maine were realized for many years. Her family meant everything to her. She saved every card, every art project, and every report card from her children through the years.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband; her five siblings, Rena Duplissey, Hattie (Kit) Gendreau, Real Gagne, Ida Fortin, Don Gagne; her daughter, Lisa Sherlock. She is survived by her son, Earl W. Brown and his wife Kathleen, her son-in-law Robert Sherlock, her son Alan, her daughter Julie and her husband Bruce Rioux, and her son Eugene; 7 grandchildren, Jennifer (Brown) and her husband Daniel Skall, Meghan (Sherlock) and her husband Florentino Salazar, William Sherlock and his wife Kristen, Brycen Brown and his partner Haley Smith, Michelle (Rioux) and her husband James Dunning, Michael Rioux and his wife Marlee, and Christopher Brown; 10 great-grandchildren; Fletcher and Griffin Skall, Sofia and Eva Salazar, Charles and Graham Sherlock, Noah Dunning, Reese Rioux, Aiden and Aria Brown.

The family of Yvette would like to express their deep appreciation for the care given to their mother in her final years by Sweet Seniors Assisted Living Center in East Millinocket, Maine. Your exceptional care and deep concern for her safety and welfare will be remembered fondly always.

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, October 1, 2021, 1:00pm at St. Louis Catholic Church.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Lajoie-Daigle Funeral Home.
