St. David/Grand Isle---Yvette Marie Gendreau, 76, died after a courageous battle with cancer on January 19, 2013 at a Fort Kent health care facility. She was born in Grand Isle on July 6, 1936, daughter of the late Ernest and Winnie (Caron) Lavertu. One of Yvette's greatest loves was to celebrate family gatherings with her children and siblings. While raising her children, she was an incredible housewife, seamstress, and cook. She loved reading, playing cards, watching professional tennis, doing yoga, and gardening, with a special love for her flower garden. Her strong faith helped her cope with her long battle with cancer, twice. Yvette is survived by her loving husband of fifty eight years, Charles M. Gendreau of St. David; four children, Daniel Gendreau of Arkansas and his three children, Miranda, Jacob, and Anthony, Harold Gendreau of Georgia and his son Julian, Karen Gendreau Libby and her husband Steven of Portland and their children Cole and Alyssa, Sarah Gendreau Bignotti and her husband Gerald, and their daughter Christina; one great grandchild, Blake Gendreau, son of Anthony Gendreau; three sisters, Viola Chamberland, Bernice Roy, and Dot Leslie; four brothers, Norman, Lucien, Herby, and Elmer Lavertu. She was predeceased by her daughter, Donna (age 2); one sister, Pauline Lavertu Audet; one brother, Manus Lavertu. Yvette will always be remembered as a loving mother and wife, and she will truly be missed by who knew her. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10am on Thursday, January 24 at the St. Gerard Church.
