Obituary

Wallagrass--- Robert "Rocky" Joseph Bard, 74, passed away on February 3, 2026, after an interminable battle of respiratory illness. Rocky was born on May 4, 1951, in Eagle Lake, to Roland Bard Sr. and Theresa (Nadeau) Bard and was a graduate of Fort Kent Community High School, Class of 1969.

Rocky was known for his meticulous and robust work ethic and competitive athletic abilities, including distance running, racket ball, and mountain climbing. He possessed copious magnitudes of ambition and expected these qualities in those around him. A high-velocity nature was an attribute that Rocky was notorious for and, even at the culmination of his life, this characteristic could be acknowledged. When injured, he was stubbornly known to dismiss the burdens of pain and performing on modest sleep as it interfered with his abundant goals. He loved his pets and had a special bond with his cat Tommy and his Siberian Husky Alaska, whom they would disappear into the woods on long jogs. He was known as a loving husband and father. His concrete and carpentry skills were readily available to his family, including his wife and daughters when they desired a project to be constructed. Rocky volunteered these skills to the local communities, including restoring a miniature blockhouse for the Town of Fort Kent, and a concrete pad for the Veterans Memorial in Soldier Pond. He provided his family with fond memories of summer weekends camping in Deboullie and relished being submersed in the rugged woods.

Rocky's employment history included working at Pinkham Lumber, Drew Dow Construction, Kutch Construction, and starting his own business as a Concrete Finisher called Bard Enterprises. One of Rocky's favorite places was his property and the beautiful home he built and lived in for over forty years with his family. Rocky's passions included building wood furniture, boulder landscaping, and hunting. Most notably, he was renowned for his immense generosity, which was evident in the vast friendships he maintained.

Rocky is survived by his wife of 48 years, Peggy (Sutherland) Bard; daughter Heather and partner Devin Fox, and daughter Jessica and partner Joel Deschaine. He is also survived by his mother, Theresa Bard; his sister, Rose Marie, and her husband, Paul Kile; his brother, Joey Bard, and his wife, Pam; his sister-in-law, Eva Bard; as well as several nieces, nephews, aunts, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Roland Bard Sr.; his sister Juliette Bard; and his identical twin brother, Roland Bard Jr., with whom he shared an exceptional lifelong bond.

The family would like to thank the outstanding medical staff at Northern Maine Medical Center for the skilled personalized care and compassion provided to Rocky on his countless visits during his final days.

Relatives and friends are invited to greet Rocky's family 8:30 – 9:30 AM on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at Lajoie-Daigle Funeral Home, 14 E. Main St., Fort Kent. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 AM at St. Louis Church, Fort Kent. Spring burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Wallagrass.
